Granny Flat
Just a five-minute drive from the bustling Burleigh Heads Esplanade sits this late '90s brick veneer gem situated in the popular location of Varsity Lakes. A lovely mother and daughter reached out to our team wanting to expand their property by adding a granny flat extension. We scheduled a site visit with the designer to engage in a detailed discussion about a customised plan that perfectly suited their needs. After meeting with the pair, they were ready to get the ball rolling!
This extension aimed to provide an additional living domain for Danielle's mother. They wanted to incorporate a seperate space that she could truly make her own while staying close to her daughter. As the new extension was primarily for the mother, she took the reins and steered the team in the direction of the choice in style and finishes within her self-contained home. She wanted to have some fun within the space, and we were all on board to get creative! She hoped to combine a minimalist style with a maximum 'wow' factor, not to mention a whole heap of shades of green and patterned tiles.
Entering the new pad from the freshly installed Hardie Deck outside, you step into a light, airy living and dining space, thanks to the cathedral ceiling giving the illusion of a grand scale room, and it paid off! After all, an entrance wouldn't be complete without a touch of luxury, right? Although the main living area was shared with the bedroom, we incorporated a custom hand-made Tassie Oak screen to seperate the two rooms, which proved to be a game-changer for the property as we didn't have to sacrifice more space by installing an enclosed bedroom wall – and it turned out to be a great feature within the home, so it was a win-win solution!
The custom kitchen cabinetry was selected in a soft shade of green, adding flair and character to the space. But the fun with the green doesn't stop there! In the new bathroom, this is where the 'wow' factor comes into play. A striking black and white star tile starts from below your feet and continues up the wall, acting as a dramatic backdrop behind the grand-scale shower area. The fitted vanity, in the same shade as the kitchen cabinetry, along with chrome fittings, ties everything together.
During the reno, we said bon-voyage to our clients who had booked a deserved holiday. We were determined to have everything completed by the time they returned from their holiday, so the clock was ticking! Three weeks later, we welcomed them home to a completed renovation, and they were thrilled!
