We are an empty nester couple in our 60’s one semi-retired and the other retired.
My wife sustained a severe ankle injury and suffered steadily increasing chronic pain for years with the only eventual relief being a total ankle fusion. The initial injury created significant problems with the largest shower in the house (main bathroom). It was small with the only disability aid able to be installed being a small handrail. It was very evident that a renovation of the bathroom to provide a larger disability friendly shower had to be done before the ankle fusion operation. We identified a way this could be achieved and prepared sketch plans and set of requirements.
We approached several building companies who advertised renovations were a core part of their business. Due to the COVID initiated renovation boom responses from these companies varied from no reply to sorry we are too busy contact us later. Smith and Sons advised they were currently very busy but made the effort to review our requirements follow through with an on-site meeting, develop a draft plan, schedule, cost estimate, and provide a likely commencement date.
Although the renovation timing was later than we were planning we accepted their offer as it more than met our requirements and cost was within the range we expected. Being the only builder interested we were quite diligent in researching their credentials and were satisfied from information available they were a reputable company.
The scope of work reviews leading to the signing of a contract were done professionally, efficiently, and productively. They provided good advice and were always willing to address any additional requirements or concerns we had.
Work commenced on the date initially advised and the renovation was completed in 4 weeks as scheduled. The quality of workmanship by all trades was very good and all people onsite were courteous and kept the work site acceptably tidy.
We are extremely pleased with the renovation and 12 months on there have been no faults, problems or issues and the bathroom provides excellent disability assistance for my wife and for both of us into the future. Based on our experience we would have no reservations in recommending Smith and Sons to others seeking a reputable builder who can design and deliver a quality renovation as planned and on budget.
